@emcdonald2s Nope. It's always fine not to tip someone. Your pay isn't my problem, nor is your conscious decision to opt for a lower-paying job packaging to-go orders instead of waiting on tables

It's high time we ended the practice of tip-based wages. If restaurants want to pay a commission or a flat living wage or whatever, that can work.

@gholmes2z It's not fair to put these employees at the mercy of their customers or their cultural understandings of when to tip and when not to tip.

I tip waitstaff and others because I know they rely on that money, but I wish the restaurant would stop putting that responsibility on me after I've had my meal.

@fharvey32 You're proposing a paycut for probably 90% of the people that get tip-based wages. I'm sure that will fly.

I've found the overwhelming majority of servers to be somewhere between good and excellent.

@rmorgan3b If you want to argue that servers should be tipped, fine; but do not support that argument with the notion that if we do not tip servers then they will make less than minimum wage; that is simply false.

Waitstaff who start complaining to their employer and wanting their wages made up might quickly be labeled as "poor servers", as indicated by their low tips, and fired.
