Office

Since everything is moving to the web, let's also move our office apps online. Link these apps to file repository sites like dropbox and your completely in the cloud. Web-based applications can also have the mobile versions. It will let the user open, edit, create, and save office documents (Word, PowerPoint, and Excel) from any browser for, just as you thought, free. With the free account (which requires only an email address for registration), you get more storage space and full functionality. You can also upgrade your account for more storage.

I've been working on a few documents - a work presentation, my card list - that I'd like to be able to access from either home or office, but without carrying my laptop or bothering with a thumb drive. This looks like it might do the trick.

@scoleci This will be the best way to deal with doc files.

@scoleci It would be nice to have to not worry whether the computer has MS word, since a web browser is easily more popular.

Even among the core Office apps, figuring out exactly what you need can be confusing

@jgutierrezcv Office Online offers free versions of Word, Excel, and Powerpoint, similar to how Google Docs works.

  • Reply

@jgutierrezcv The differences between these free apps, and the ones you can install with Office 365 or Office 2016 aren?t clear.

@mfoxcx Unless you already know about a specific feature you need, most people would have a hard time figuring out which version is designed for?them.

  • Reply

@mfoxcx After a ton of time and research, I eventually found what I needed and settled on an Office 365 subscription, but it was frustrating.

Most customers had no idea if they were buying the right version, and went for bigger, more premium versions ?just in case.?

@cgordond0 ?When you can?t understand what you?re buying, you?re probably going to overspend.

@cgordond0 That situation always happen to me.

Microsoft?s combination online and offline productivity suite, offers a subscription, allowing you to pay a monthly fee to install versions of?some?apps on as many computers as you want

Do you prefer using online tools and paying as little as possible?

@rfieldsd4 ?Microsoft?s marketing and licensing structure might try to confuse you about what you need, but you can usually simplify your needs to one of these three categories.

  • Reply

@rfieldsd4 ?Before you buy an Office package, you should probably check out at least one of these to make sure that you?re getting what you need without overspending.

@rfieldsd4 Office is so essential that we have no choice but to navigate this confusing mess
