Portable tire inflator

Flat tires can ruin your day in a hurry, but keeping one of these handy tire inflators in your trunk will ensure you get back on the road in a snap. Tire inflators now are available with pressure meter. It offers great performance in a user-friendly, durable, and affordable package. Most tire inflators have an accurate and legible pressure gauge, it reads up to 250 psi. This feature makes it easier to inflate tires that require higher pressures than 80 psi, such as those of road bikes or RVs. And the most important factor of all, it is very affordable.

Question, do brands matter for this type of thing

@abutler0 I would be defenseless without it

@abutler0 I?ve been using my Harbor Freight compressor on and off for the past 4 years. It gets pulled out for big projects (the 200? of privacy fence I did last weekend with a framing nailer) and small projects (building a little hut for my daughter?s ha

@abutler0 Stay away from oilless. They?re loud and tend to have a shorter life?

? @cjohnson3 They?re also more forgiving if you over-run them every once in a while.

? @cjohnson3 ?There are a lot of good reliable portable pupms out on craigslist and at garage sales?

I?ve had a Sears one that probably on par with Harbor Freight as far as quality is concerned. It?s lasted for?years?and through jobs big and small

One can never have too many portable tire inflator.

@malexander7 ATP50 was one of the quickest competitors in inflating our test tires, and it remained stable during operation

  • Reply

@malexander7 ?It also has a 25?-inch hose, and it was one of only three models we tested that offered an auto-shutoff function.?

I?m embarrassed for Porter-Cable, which generally makes good stuff. They cheaped out on a critical part of the machine.?

  • Reply

@rlawsona ?I?ve been using an inexpensive Kobalt compressor since then (also made in China, like the Porter-Cable, but what isn?t these days?), and have had zero problems.

  • Reply

@rlawsona For the most part an air compressor is an air compressor.?

  • Reply

@bhernandezc But they do use electric motors to compress the air and sometimes cheaper brands tend to fail earlier than their more expensive counterparts.?

  • Reply

@bhernandezc You also want to take a look at the hose before you buy one. Some of the cheaper brands will go cheap on the hose and it might be more susceptible to punctures which can be a big deal when compressed air is going through it.

@jwilliamsonb Sometimes brand names will use quieter motors too (although they are still loud).?

The biggest difference between compressors I?ve seen is oiled vs oil-less.?

  • Reply

@awilliamsoni the oiled ones last longer (though you have to remember to change oil now and again).

  • Reply

@awilliamsoni I would go with harbor freight for compressors . They have good warranties and most of them aren?t oil less compressors. Oil less compressors are noisy and don?t last long.

it can be useful to know what to look for in a portable air compressor for car tires

  • Reply

@twagnerl One option would be to use a bigger air compressor with an air tank sized 2 gallons or more and hook it up with a tire inflator ideally equipped with an analog or digital display, so you can read the pressure that is going in your tires.

  • Reply

@twagnerl It?s true that you could inflate your car tires with an air compressor of any size, but the best car air compressor?for tires will be powerful enough so that the process is quick and convenient.

@sleev Same here, but that thing bounces around like crazy.

@sleev I just got one of those ViAir compressors.

  • Reply

@dlopezw Thanks for recommending it.?

  • Reply

@dlopezw I see they sell these at Home Depot. I'm thinking about getting one for my car. I saw harbor freight has a cheap one. I'd rather pay the extra money
